A celebration of the 2008 race year at All American Speedway will be held Saturday night November 15th at the Placer County Fairgrounds. The 2008 awards banquet will recognize the drivers and teams that raced during the NASCAR Whelen championship season at paved oval in Roseville.
“We had a banner year,” Director of Operations, Dennis Gage explained when describing the season. “The participation was first rate, all the way, he continued, we had great attendance and competition, three of our divisions went down to the final race of the year, he concluded.”
The banquet celebrates the achievements of the race teams during the year. Emphasis is given to individual performance with awards like Sportsperson of the Year, Most Improved Driver, and Rookie of the Year. All divisions are showcased with awards for the top ten performers in each class. This will include the NASCAR Whelan Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Bombers. In addition a special mechanic of the year award will be given out.
Leading the award recipients will be Paulie Harraka in the Late Model division who ended the year in a tie with veteran driver John Moore. Harraka won the championship based on more feature wins than Moore. Scott Winters again dominated the modified class and locked up the championship before the season was over. In Street Stock racing Mickey Owens held off the advances of Phil Wilkins to capture the crown, and Jason Poppert won his first track title after a spirited battle with Mike Dickson in the Bombers.
The banquet will be held Saturday night November 15th at Jones Hall at the Placer County Fairgrounds. The evening begins with a no host social hour followed by dinner, awards, and dancing.
